A man and his eight-year-old son were killed on Sunday afternoon when a train hit their car at an unmanned level-crossing in Pataudi here.

According to the police, Ravinder, a resident of Bilaspur Khurd, was on his way to Dhoki village with his son Ayush in a Santro when a train hit them near Pahari village.

The train was coming from Rewari and heading towards Delhi when the accident took place.

The impact was such that it reduced the car to a mangled heap, killing the father and son on the spot.

Rail traffic on the railway line was affected for four hours due to the accident.

The police managed to pull the car out from under the train after strenuous efforts, following which the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
