The Aurora Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday that wounded a homeless man at a McDonald’s after he showed a gun to employees.
The 23-year-old man was shot in the wrist, said Sgt. Chris Amsler, police spokesman.
The incident took place at the fast food restaurant at 14251 E. Colfax Ave.
At about 7:30 a.m., employees reported “an unwanted armed person was loitering in the lobby. An employee asked him to leave and he became agitated and displayed a handgun,” Amsler said.
McDonald’s employees noticed that the man, who arrived at the store at about 5 a.m., had a gun and called police, said Karina Pinedo, the McDonald’s manager.
Police arrived and found the man in the bathroom, Amsler said. He didn’t know if the suspect pointed the gun at the officers.
Two officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Amsler said, which is routine procedure in such cases.
Denver police are assisting in the investigation.
