Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a 14-year-old boy was shot dead with an air rifle.

Officers were called to an address in Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk at 1.35pm on Sunday by paramedics who were treating a boy with life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in a critical condition but died a short while later.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: "Two teenagers have been arrested following the death of a 14-year old-boy after an incident at an address in Thurston this afternoon.

"Police were called by the ambulance service at 1.35pm following reports of a male having sustained life threatening injuries.

"The injured teenager was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in a critical condition, where he sadly died a short while later.

"At this early stage, police believe there was a discharge of a firearm, and are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

"Police have arrested two teenage boys on suspicion of manslaughter, and they have been taken to Bury Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

"Police will not be naming the victim at this stage."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We dispatched two ambulance officer s in rapid response vehicles and an ambulance crew to reports of an incident in Thurston.

"A boy was treated at the scene for life threatening injuries and taken to West Suffolk Hospital in a critical condition."
