RTA fails to add PUC to m-Wallet application

The problem is with DLs issued before 2010 which do not have digital photo and signature.

Hyderabad: Over 3.20 lakh motorists have downloaded the m-Wallet but RTA officials have not yet provided the facility of adding the vehicle’s Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate to the electronic wallet.

A month after the launch of the app many motorists complained that they are unable to download driving licences in their full form, that is, along with photos and signature. The problem is with DLs issued before 2010 which do not have digital photo and signature.

There is also a problem in downloading vehicle insurance documents. Though motorists have been requesting RTA officials to provide the facility of adding DLs issued in states other than Telangana to the m-Wallet, officials said the app supports only DLs issued in the 10 districts of Telangana.

“My driving licence doesn’t show my picture. My driving licence info is being pulled correctly but the digital certificate downloaded doesn’t have a picture of mine. If there is no picture the driving licenceis is useless. I can use it only for RC,” said Mr Sai Kiran Reddy, a motorist.

“A good initiative of TS government. This app is useful. No need to carry physical documents. But there are some bugs. Insurance is not up-to-date on RC and photo is not downloaded on licence. It will be an excellent app if these problems are solved,” said another motorist Rajasekhar Reddy. Motorist George Joseph asked how can the police identify the DL owner without a photo on it.

“Cheats can use this. Please do something about this,” he said.
Transport commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania said the digital copy of photos and digital signatures are not available for licences issued before 2010 and due to this the photo is not appearing with the DL in many cases.

“We are working on solving this DL-photo problem. We are also writing to the insurance authorities to update details on their server for motorists to download it. The PUC will be added to m-wallet soon,” he said.
