A colorectal clinic was inaugurated at Fortis Malar Hospital on Saturday. It was opened by C Palanivelu, director, GEM Hospitals and Research Centre, Coimbatore and Prof Joel Leroy of IRCAD, a pool of France-based cancer research laboratories.

Burglary at temple in Minjur: Burglars on Saturday broke into Sethuraman Temple in Akrambedu near Minjur and made away with one and a-half-sovereigns of gold jewellery. They also took away the hundi. The theft came to light on Sunday morning. The police have registered a case.
Sub-inspector attacked in Parrys: Police arrested three shop keepers - Abbas, Batcha and Sagar - for attacking a police sub-inspector, Ramalingam attached to the prohibition enforcement wing in Burma Bazaar on Saturday. The SI went to examine these shops for the possession of liquor bottlesin view of May 1, a dry day. The arrested were remanded in prison.
Gemstone trader killed in a road accident: A 55-year-old gemstone seller of Vivekanandar Nagar died while he was travelling in an autorickshaw which overturned after a car rammed into the vehicle on the Vyasarpadi flyover on Saturday. Police said Fakruddin died on the spot. Autorickshaw driver Ekambaram was injured. The Kilpauk traffic police are investigating.
