Play highlighting drug abuse in state staged

Nirmal Jaura's play "Saudagar" gave a tough fight to drugs which has infested its roots in the youth of Punjab. With its goal to awaken neglected minds and souls of residents, Punjab Cultural Society organized a "Saudagar" April 30.

Ludhiana: Nirmal Jaura's play "Saudagar" gave a tough fight to drugs which has infested its roots in the youth of Punjab. With its goal to awaken neglected minds and souls of residents, Punjab Cultural Society organized a "Saudagar" April 30. With no seat left empty, the play received an amazing response from city residents. In the words of president Rajinder Ranguwal, "the play was a hit".
The show started on a melodious note by Sunanda, a singer from PAU.
The play with duration of an hour was based on manifestation of drugs among youth. The title of the play which was derived from a character "Saudaagar" showcased tragedy while dealing in drugs and its effect on almost everyone around drug addicts.
Dr Sukhpal Singh, economist from Punjab Agricultural University, was honoured with Dr Mohinder Singh Randhawa Yadgiri Award and Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh, an expert in organ transplant, was bestowed Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Award. People appreciated awardees and society for bringing them to the limelight and highlighting their service to humanity. MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon also graced the occasion. Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh was impressed by the auditorium management and the theme of the play. "I had never seen such an amazing story been put forward with such ease and perfection. The team has put forward a great show," he expressed.
Lavanya Kapoor, teacher in a private school, lauded the performance, "The play was too good considering effect of drugs and how it is ruining youth; such plays should be staged in every school to make students aware of this misdeed." she said. Punjab Cultural Society, which has been doing many performances based on Sufi nights, cultural dances and theatre, plans to produce more such shows to infuse cultural awakening in society.
