Warner slams Shamsi's celebration

Last Updated 01 May 2016, 19:09 IST

David Warner took exception to dancing celebration by Tabraiz Shamsi after the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowler dismissed the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s skipper during their IPL match here on Saturday night.

Warner, who cracked a match-winning half-century, fell just short of 10 runs from bringing up his first century of the season and the opener wasn’t too impressed as RCB’s South African import Shamsi ran towards skipper Virat Kohli at deep covers and began his dancing routine that the left-arm chinaman bowler has been performing whenever he has taken a wicket this IPL.

"I was looking at Virat Kohli and I don't think he was too impressed until he (Shamsi) got a bit closer," Warner said when asked as to what did he make of the bowler’s celebrations.

"I think it's a bit hard for a captain to stand there and not go (through) the motions. In my team, if someone does that at 150 off 15 overs, I wouldn't accept that at all. I think it's a bit fancy to be honest,” he remarked, attempting his own imitation of the dance as he left the conference hall.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were 152/2 in 15.5 overs at the moment Warner was dismissed for a 50-ball 90.

Echoing Warner’s sentiments was his compatriot and Pune Supergiants’ leg-spinner Adam Zampa who took to twitter to express his disapproval of Shamsi’s behaviour.

“Shamsi's wicket celebrations are no good,” he tweeted. Warner, in the process of his fifth fifty in seven innings, snatched the Orange Cap from Kohli for the top run-getter this season. At 386, Warner is five runs ahead of the Indian Test skipper who has played a match less though.

“Yeah, it’s always good to score some runs but I am just proud of the way the boys approached today with the bat,” he noted when asked about his form. “Obviously it’s very handy to have a player of Kane Williamson’s class to come in and help me; knock around and take the pressure off the middle-order and myself. That was a fantastic partnership that we had.”
