‘Interior’ working to solve problem of absconding domestic workers

KUWAIT CITY, April 30: Ministry of Interior is working on solving the problem of absconding domestic workers after their numbers have increased to a panicking figure exceeding 53,000, reports Al-Anba daily quoting security sources.

Indicating that arrest warrants have been issued against the absconders, the sources revealed that the General Department for Citizenship, Passports, and Travel Documents headed by Assistant Undersecretary Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah will soon form a security team to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

They said the shortage of staff in the department is an obstacle to reducing the number of violators of the residency law. The sources affirmed that the ministry will intensify its crackdown on known shady locations to fight the phenomenon of increasing number of absconding domestic workers particularly housemaids, adding that new laws will be passed soon to fight this phenomenon.

Maid to be deported: Director of Security in the Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorate Major-General Faraj Al-Zuabi has ordered the deportation of an unidentified Asian maid for threatening to stab her female sponsor and her children, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily added, the suspect is in the custody of the Sabah Al-Salem Police Station. Acting on information, securitymen rushed to the spot and arrested the maid. According to the complainant this happened because she shouted at the maid for not cleaning the house properly. The incident happened in Adan.
