In a recent interview, cast member Sam Heughan shared some insight about Jamie’s reaction to the news about Jack Randall being alive in “Outlander” Season 2 episode 4. The reaction was not what his wife Claire was expecting.

[Spoiler alert]

One of the things that brought Jamie (Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) back together in the recently aired episode is the news that Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) is still alive. Claire had been hiding the news from her husband for fear of how he may react.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Heughan revealed that he wanted to portray Jamie as a “shadow of himself” in the first few episodes of the season. With the revelation that Black Jack is still alive, Jamie is filled with energy and has a new purpose in life.

Jamie takes control of his life, with the hope that someday he will be able to kill Black Jack himself. The revelation also helped in getting rid of Jamie’s nightmares and helped him get close to his wife once again. The relationship of the couple had been strained in the first few episodes of “Outlander” Season 2.

Although Jamie was able to find himself again; the event will also have consequences that may not be very favourable, Heughan teased. The actor said that the fans are in for some “dramatic stuff” later on in the season, but refrained from revealing any spoilers.

Claire has already experienced firsthand how dangerous life is for the couple in Paris. Someone plotted to kill her twice in episode 2. Balfe revealed that the murder attempts have made her character more determined to find out who is behind the attacks and also ensure the success of their mission.

The couple plan to return home after their mission in France. However, back in Scotland they will encounter a “slightly less confident” Black Jack, Menzies revealed. The Black Jack in “Outlander” Season 2 will not be the same as the one seen in the first season, due to his injuries and “some disciplinary fallout from the events in Wentworth.”
