Vadodara: A six-foot long crocodile was caught from an under-construction residential society in Jarod some 20 kms from the city on Saturday morning. Locals had spotted the crocodile at around 8.30 am and alerted the animal rescue activists.
"There are two storm water drains near the society which have over the time become habitats for the reptile.
We believe that the crocodile strayed into the residential area in the night. It was spotted lying in the garden of the society," said Rakesh Vadhwana of The Crocodile Group.
Vadhwana added that the crocodile did not attack anyone and that the group handed over the reptile to the forest department. According to him, loss of habitat is the reason behind such incidents.
"When crocodiles are spotted in residential area, citizens should refrain from trying to catch the reptile or distract it. They should immediately call the helpline of the forest department and watch its movements till the rescue workers arrive," added Vadhwana.
