One dead, two injured as rival groups clash in Porbandar village

Rajkot: Clash between two rival groups in Nagka village of Porbandar on Friday evening ended with one person being killed and two sustaining injuries. Both groups have filed cross complaints with the Bagwadar police station.
The deceased Naresh Panchasara (50), resident of Bhesan village of Junagadh, died on the spot after being hit on the head by a sharp-edged weapon.
The injured persons inlcude — Bharat Mer (35) and his brother Bhima Mer (28) — belonging to the rival group. Bharat was shot in the leg and has been referred to Rajkot civil hospital, while Bhima is under treatment at Porbandar hospital.
According to police, there was an old dispute between the Mer brothers and one Bhima Manda over walk-way between their fields on the outskirts of Nagka village. On Friday, Manda along with his brother-in-law Bhola Khunti, Panchasara and five others attacked the Mer brothers with sharp-edged weapons while they were in their filed.
Mer brothers also retaliated and attacked the rival group with farm equipment and sharp weapons. Panchasara was hit on the head by one such weapon, resulting in his death on the spot. "Seeing Panchasara fall to the ground, Khunti fired three rounds from a country-made pistol at the Mer brothers. One of the bullets hit Bharat in the leg, while his brother Bhima was injured with sharp weapons," said police sub-inspector A L Parmar of Bagwadar police station, probing the case.
The Mer brothers were booked for murder of Panchasara, while eight persons including Manda and his aides were booked for attempt to murder, rioting and under various sections of the Arms Act. Parmar said that no arrests have been made in the case yet.
