Cartoonist Toms to be laid to rest today

The body was kept there from 3 pm to 5pm, and later taken to his house at Kanjikuzhy.

Kottayam: Hundreds of people from various walks of life paid homage to cartoonist Toms, the creator of Boban and Molly when his body was kept at a specially built stage in the compound of the Sahitya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society (SPCS) at Kottayam. The body was kept there from 3 pm to 5pm, and later taken to his house at Kanjikuzhy.

Among those who paid their homage include former Supreme Court Judge K.T. Thomas, film director Joshy Mathew among others. The body will be taken to the Lourdhe Forane Church in front of the Collectorate by Sunday 3 pm, and the body will be buried at the church cemetery after the funeral ceremony.

The state government had decided to give an official honour to the funeral functions, said Kerala cartoon academy chairman Prasannan Aanikad. A condolence meeting by the Kerala cartoon academy will be held at the church compound after the funeral.


Cartoonist Toms, aged 86, died at a private hospital on Wednesday night due to old age illness after lying in coma for at least six months.
