164 papers accepted in Nellai

Of the 314 nominations received from 236 candidates for the ten Assembly constituencies in the district, 150 nominations were rejected during scrutiny on Saturday.

Consequently, 164 candidates are in the fray now.

In Sankarankovil (Reserved) constituency, of the 31 nominations received, 18 were accepted while 13 were rejected. In the Vasudevanallur(Reserved) constituency, the number of nominations received were 22, of which 16 were accepted and 6 were rejected.

In Kadayanallur 37 nominations were received. While 18 were accepted, 19 were rejected. In Tenkasi Assembly constituency, of the 31 nominations received, 11 were accepted and 20 of the nominations were rejected.

In Alangulam constituency, the number of nominations received was 26. A total of 13 candidates are in the fray as 13 nominations were accepted and an equal number rejected. In Tirunelveli Assembly constituency, of the 37 nominations received, 21 were accepted and 16 were rejected.

In Ambasamudram, 37 nominations were received, of which 19 were accepted and 18 were rejected. In Palayamkottai, of the 41 nominations received, 15 were accepted while 26 got rejected. In Nanguneri, the number of nominations received totalled to 26, of which 17 were accepted while 9 were rejected. In Radhapuram Assembly segment, 26 nominations were received. While 16 were accepted and 10 were rejected.

The total number of candidates in the battle of ballots may go down further if a few of them withdraw from the race during the ‘withdrawal of nominations’ on Monday (May 2).
