This article is more than 7 years old.

Consultant and art director Sofía Sanchez de Betak is a fixture on the fashion scene. Professionally she has worked with luxury brands such as Marni, Estée Lauder, Jimmy Choo, and Ermenegildo Zegna just to name a few. Her personal style has also caught the eyes of the editors at Vogue, which has garnered her a spot on their weekly Best Dressed list several times.

This spring The Luxury Collection commissioned Sofía Sanchez de Betak to design a set of Globe-Trotter luggage inspired by her travels to their properties in Greece. Four styles are available and each style features a treasure map of a different locale in Greece: Santorini, Messinia, Athena, and Mykonos.

Sanchez de Betak is a true citizen of the world. She was born and raised in Buenos Aires, studied at Universidad de Palermo, and taught typography for three years at University of Buenos Aires. A job at the advertising agency Lloyd & Co brought her stateside to New York City. Since then Sanchez de Betak has gone on to travel the globe and work on projects for Chloe, Chanel , Barneys New York, Tiffany & Co, and Zara among others.

What led you to build a career in the creative field?

I've always loved design in all forms. Since I was very young I was obsessed with typography and illustrations. When I finished high school, graphic design was my first choice.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

The research part…going through different materials, photographs, books, music, films, nature, and trips!

How did this collaboration with The Luxury Collection and Globe-Trotter come about?

We had been bouncing ideas to collaborate with The Luxury Collection and nothing clicked until I was making a treasure hunt for my step kids. That was it! I proposed a social media treasure hunt through their hotels in Greece. The culmination was a collection of suitcases with the treasure maps lined inside. I've been a customer of Globe-Trotter for a long time. Their trunk designs made them the perfect fit for this project.

What do you love about Greece?

I've been going to Greece almost every summer for the past six years and love it more and more every time. It has the perfect balance between leisure and culture.

What other Luxury Collection properties have you been to?

My first Luxury Collection experience was a trip to the Hacienda Santa Rosa, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Mexico. It reminded me of my childhood in Argentina. Not only is the property gorgeous, but they also support local communities and run workshops for the women in the area to develop artisanal products.

Where will your travels take you next?

Cuba! I’ve never been before and I'm incredibly excited.

(Note: Havana icon, Hotel Inglaterra, will join The Luxury Collection portfolio this summer.)

What are your travel essentials?

My Luxury Collection Globe-Trotter suitcase, headphones, hand cream, lip balm, sunscreen, camera, and sunglasses.

What is your fondest travel memory?

I recently went to Antarctica and it was the most incredible place I’ve ever seen! We kayaked among icebergs, whales, and penguins.
