Mishap-prone spots to get signages: SP
Nagpur: Nagpur rural police have identified 156 accident-prone spots in the district, which are now under surveillance. Police, public works department (PWD) and zilla parishad have decided to erect precautionary sings at these spots within a month, said superintendent of police Anant Rokde on Saturday.
Addressing media at police headquarters near Patankar chowk, the SP said efforts are being taken to improve traffic issues and strictly enforce rules.
“A joint survey was done by police and private company within limits of some of the bigger police stations to introduce traffic signals at junctions.
“We would submit a proposal for sanctioning budget for the traffic signals with the collector and guardian minister,” he said and added, “We are facing acute staff crunch in our traffic wing where at least 500 personnel are required. In district traffic branch, there is only one officer of the rank of inspector with barely a dozen of constables,” he said.
Rokde said that rural police have also sent a proposal to the government for sanctioning 24 sophisticated breath analysers equipped with cameras. “We have already alerted personnel to act against drunken driving using existing breath analysers but we do hope to get the latest version of the gadgets,” he said.
The SP informed that CCTV would be installed at all 24 police stations within a month. “At present, police stations of Kondhali, Katol and Kanhan have CCTV cameras. We need CCTV for surveillance at lock up, station house and also to cover the outer premises,” he said.
Rokde also said that there are 108 farmhouses in the rural districts. “Every police station has held a meeting with the farmhouse owners asking them to follow rules and regulations. They have been warned against building swimming tanks without permission,” he said.

Regarding pending amounts from VCA and BCCI for security provided during the 11 matches of ICC World T20 held at Jamtha stadium, Rokde said rural police have already sent a bill of more than 1.36 crore to BCCI. “VCA Jamtha stadium would soon come under city police. The Hingna, Old Kamptee and new Kamptee police stations would be handed over to the city police in presence of chief minister and guardian minister soon,” he said.
On the occasion, the SP felicitated eight police ‘mitras’ or volunteers, rewarding them with cash 2,000 each, for helping police during to control tension at Parseoni after an accident
