Bengaluru: MVJ Medical College and Hospital near Hoskote was vandalized and two doctors were assaulted by relatives of a patient who died in the hospital on Friday.
Two doctors, two nurses and a technician sustained serious wounds in the attack by relatives of Beeresh, 24, from Kannuralli village near Hoskote. The injured staff are recuperating in the hospital.
The relatives of the patient alleged medical negligence, but filed no police complaint.
According to sources, Beeresh was admitted to the hospital on Thursday with pneumonia and septicemia. "He was brought in serious condition and the same was explained to the patients' family. His condition worsened on Friday morning and he was given ventilator support. The family wanted to shift him to a bigger hospital and we agreed to send him in an ambulance with ventilator support. But the relatives didn't revert to us for more than an hour and the patient died despite our best efforts," said Dharni Mohan, CEO, MVJ Medical College and Hospital.
On Saturday, the villagers continued their protest at the hospital, where police were deployed. The body was taken by the relatives on Friday evening and post mortem was conducted in a government hospital.
Hosakote police said, "The patient's family has alleged medical negligence. They have not filed any police complaint with us. Alerted by hospital officials in the morning, we deployed around 40 officials for security."
