Jalandhar: Nearly 100 representatives of six villages in Jalandhar district converged on the residence of Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh on Satrday to "thank him" for refusing to take oath as a chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) to oppose the proposed setting up of a solid waste management plant near Jamsher.
The representatives also said that Punjab chief minister (CM) Parkash Singh Badal should give in writing to former Olympian that the plant would not be set up at the proposed site.
Chitewani sarpanch Kamaljit Kaur, who had threatened self-immolation when senior officials had visited Jamsher to hear the objections of people against the plant, said they would not allow the plant at the site.
She said the CM was claiming that the proposal had been dropped, but officials of local bodies department had been visiting the spot regularly and had been saying that the proposal had mandatory sanctions. Kamaljit also challenged Punjab local bodies minister Anil Joshi to stay in the village for a week and then realize the problems they were already facing due to Jamsher dairy complex. "Rather, action should be taken against officials who distorted facts and manipulated the report of the public hearing," said the sarpanch and other representatives.
