It’s indeed a dream start! After receiving critical acclaim for her first two movies in Malayalam, Kochi-based Aparna Vinod is on cloud nine after getting a chance to act in Vijay 60, directed by Bharathan of Azhagiya Tamil Magan fame. In a candid conversation with DC, she speaks about her career, why she’s choosy about her roles and about her future aspirations.
“Right from a very young age, I’ve been in love with movies. Though acting was not my preference early on, I eventually fell in love with it. Having trained and groomed myself, I’m happy that I’m getting good recognition at such an early stage of my career,” starts Aparna. Having had no ‘godfather’ in this field, the 20-year-old says that she explored acting in various ways possible — “Right from taking part in skits during school days to being a part of drama crew, I made full use of the opportunities available to learn the nuances of acting. I even used to act in front of the mirror and took videos of myself to understand my strengths and weaknesses,” she grins.
Sharing details about her first break, Aparna, who is pursuing BSc psychology in Thrissur says, “I was lucky to get a launch in National Award winner Priyanandanan’s movie Njan Ninnodu Koodeyundu. The day when I auditioned for the movie and got selected, is one of the proudest moments of my life!” Her second movie, Kohinoor, a comedy-heist thriller, boosted her popularity further.
When we ask her about how she got a chance to act in the movie alongside Vijay, she gets instantly excited — "One day, I received a call from Bharathan sir's office. Though I can't reveal anything about the movie and my role, when I met him, he narrated the script and as the role was very interesting, I immedietly accepted. Featuring in a movie alongside Ilayathalapathy is a dream come true.” She also says that she has been following Tamil movies arduously for a long time. "Kollywood movies are so interesting and entertaining. I make sure I watch movies of Vijay, Suriya and Nayanthara without fail. Apart from the movies, I find Tamil language itself very sweet."
On a concluding note, she affirms that she would not choose roles just to survive in the industry and wishes to evolve as an actress — “I can't just do movies to keep me afloat in this field. I'm particular about choosing movies, which I think have a significant role for me. Apart from this, I wish to act in movies of established directors - being a part of their movies will help me learn more about acting and help me evolve,” she says and bids adieu.
