Munger: At least 11 villagers of Tetariya, including women, besides the SHO of Barhat police station in Jamui district were injured by a wild bear on Friday. Police sources said the injured SHO has been referred to PMCH as his condition was stated to be serious. Others have been admitted to Jamui sadar hospital.
Jamui SP Jayant Kant said the animal entered the village early in the morning from Barhat forest areas and injured 11 persons.
Villagers tried to scare away the bear, but failed to do so. "The situation became panicky when the animal entered a house of the village under Barhat PS in Jamui district where the family members were busy in a marriage ceremony," said the SP .
When police were informed, Barhat SHO Prajesh Kumar Dubey arrived with his team. The SHO was, however, injured while trying to confront with the wild animal. "At last the SHO shot the bear with his service revolver and the panicky villagers heaved a sigh of relief," said police sources adding officials of the forest department have been informed.
