Entertainment » OtherPosted at: Apr 30 2016 9:07PM Towns in EG district to be free from open defecation by JulyKakinada Apr 30 (UNI): All the towns in East Godavari district would be covered cent percent by individual sanitary latrines and declared as free from open defecation by July end. The District Collector H.Arun Kumar informed the Union Urban development ministry secretary Rajiv Gouda, additional secretary Samir Sarma and joint secretary Praveen Prakash during the video conference held by them from Visakhapatnam today, that 12,887 families in urban areas of the district were not having individual latrines as such 12,768 latrines were sanctioned to them of which 7,468 were so far completed and the balance by July end. Mr Kumar said every effort was being made to declare the district as having towns free from open defecation and covered cent percent by individual latrines completing construction of latrines within a couple of months. `Already awareness programmes were taken up through slum level federations and women self help groups impressing the people on the need for individual latrines and hazards of open defecation.
