Two of the heaviest hitters in the heavyweight division will throw down on July 7 when Roy Nelson meets Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night: dos Anjos vs. Alvarez in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the new bout Friday night.

The matchup between Nelson and Lewis has been long rumored after the two fighters more or less called each other out over social media the last few months.

Lewis took a short notice fight against Gabriel Gonzaga in Croatia in the meantime. But after dispatching him with another violent knockout, he was ready to go again post haste.

The New Orleans native has gone 6-2 thus far during his UFC campaign, with all six victories coming by way of knockout or TKO.

Now Lewis will face a heavyweight with just as much pop behind his punches. Nelson accepted the fight following a win over Jared Rosholt in his most recent Octagon trip.

A constant contender inside the top 15 at heavyweight, Nelson has faced a who's who of top fighters during his career with the UFC. He'll look to add Lewis' name to his resume when they meet in July.

The upcoming UFC Fight Night card on July 7 also features lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event against Eddie Alvarez. The entire card is airing live on UFC Fight Pass.
