EARLIER: TWO hikers have spent the night trapped on a cliff in Mount Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast after one man injured his leg and became unable to make the trek down.

Emergency services and SES volunteers launched a rescue mission on Saturday night after the hikers made the distress call about 6pm.

But rain stalled plans to airlift the injured man, who is unable to trek back, from the cliff face.

A rescue crew delivered food and water to the pair last night when the decision was made for them to camp out until the weather cleared and a helicopter could be deployed.

Heavy rain has continued to delay the rescue plans this morning.

One of the men fell and cut his knee seriously, leaving the duo in an awkward spot on the mountain.

Police, emergency and SES crews have all attempted to get to the men, however they were unable to safely retrieve them last night.

Another attempt was to be made at first light today.
