Lata Mangeshkar paid tributes to cinema legend Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema, on his 146th birth anniversary on Saturday (April 30).

Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar paid tributes to cinema legend Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema, on his 146th birth anniversary on Saturday.

Starting with his debut film “Raja Harishchandra” in 1913, now known as India’s first full-length feature, Phalke went on to carve a permanent place in the book of Indian cinema with his work as a producer, director and screenwriter.

She tweeted: “Greetings. It is father of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke’s birthday anniversary today. I am proud of the fact that I got the award, which honours his legacy, in 1989. I bow down to all his work and memories (Namaskar. Aaj Bhartiya Film Industry ke Pitamah Dada Saheb Phalke ji ki jayanti hai. Mujhe is baat ka garv hai ki mujhe 1989 mein unke naam se diya jaanewala Phalke award mila tha. Main unki yaad ko naman karti hun.”

The Bharat Ratna awardee, who is also called the ‘Nightingale of India’ for her melodious voice, is known for songs like “Aayega aanewaala”, “Dil wil pyar wyar”, “Bindiya chamkegi”, “Tune o rangeele kaisa jaadu kiya”, and “Aaja shaam hone aayi”. Her track to salute the valour of Indian Army soldiers with “Aye mere watan ke logo” still brings tears to the eyes.
