On the final day of the World base jump competition in Yunyang, Chongqing, competitors had to jump from 700-metres, enduring difficult conditions to put on a show for the thrill seeking crowd.

The first edition of the World BASE Jump Competition attracted 16 competitors from seven countries to Chongqinq. Serving as a perfect jumping platform, the city's grass walkway is more than 700 meters above water making for a unique setting, even for the most experienced difficult skydivers.

Also at the event was Zhang Shupeng, known as the first wingsuit man of China. Instead of competing, the professional BASE jumper chose to be a caretaker this time and enjoy the sport in a different way.

"I think it means a lot to me to be a caretaker. By hosting this event I hope more people will have a chance to get to know extreme sports, especially BASE jumping. Rather than myself jumping, I'd like to do something to help the sport grow in China," Zhang said.

All the athletes went through three jumps, with four of them making the final. Their result depended on how they moved in the sky and how well they landed.

Jesse Hall of the USA, turned out the most successful with entertaining free-falling tricks and a perfect landing on the target. He got 37 points to beat fellow countrymen Sean Chuma and Tim Mattson to the title.

The 2016 World BASE Jump Competition has become highest-classed international BASE jump competition in China, marking a step further of Chinese extreme sports.
