Gauteng legislature sends condolences after horror Randfontein crash

Johannesburg - The Gauteng legislature (GPL) on Saturday sent out condolences to the families of the 14 people who died in a horrific crash involving a minibus taxi in Randfontein.

The 14 died on Friday following a collision between a minibus taxi and a postal truck on the R41. Two others were critically injured.

"The Honourable Speaker, Ntombi Mekgwe, conveys her deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the 14 victims who died, as well as wishes a speedy recovery to those injured," the statement said.

"The high accident rate in the province is still a challenge. It is, therefore, everyone's responsibility to remain committed to safe driving behaviour and attitude."

ER24 said, at the time, that both vehicles had been completely ripped open.

Television Maluleke, a colleague of the truck driver who died, said on Friday that the whole thing felt unreal.

"When I went to look for my colleague on the scene, I found that he is no longer there," Maluleke said.

Maluleke said he had been with his colleague just a day earlier.

"This still feels like a joke to me, I can't believe that he is gone," he said.

Fighting to hold back his emotions, Maluleke said he had never experienced such a horrific accident.

Human limbs and maimed bodies were strewn across the road and covered with silver blankets following the crash.
