‘Nashville’s’ Lennon and Maisy Cover “Lean On”

Lennon Stella and Maisy Stella are most commonly known for their roles as Maddie Conrad and Daphne Condrad on ABC’s Nashville. They started on the show in 2012 playing the daughters of fictional country star, Rayna Jaymes. On Nashville, Lennon and Maisy often show their talent as musicians and singers.

Lennon and Maisy shared in an interview on The Today Show on April 20, 2016, that the relationship between their characters on Nashville is nothing close to their relationship in real life. Maddie does not like Daphne on the show, but they love each other in real life.

Lennon and Maisy first stole the hearts of social media with a cover of Robyn & Erato’s “Call Your Girlfriend” they shared on YouTube. In the video, the girls are sitting at the kitchen table with two empty butter tubs they are using as drums. Behind them hangs a piece of butcher block paper with their names written above their heads. The YouTube video currently has close to 28 million views.

Lennon and Maisy are not only known for their beautiful voices, they are also known for their fashion sense. People Magazine, U.S. Weekly and USA Today have all included Lennon and Maisy on a best-dressed list. They took part in New York Fashion Week in February 2016.

In 2013, Lennon and Maisy premiered a cover of the The Lumineers’ popular song “Hey Ho” on an episode of Nashville. The song took off and reached popularity across multiple genres of music. Lennon and Maisy have made quite a success doing covers of songs and have even brought awareness to songs some had never heard until they heard Lennon and Maisy’s cover.

Lennon and Maisy were born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada to parents Brad and Marylynne Stella. Lennon and Maisy, currently 16-years-old and 12-years-old, grew up in a world of music. Lennon generally sings the melody while Maisy takes the harmony. According to Lennon, Maisy’s harmonies come naturally. During an interview with Coup De Main Magazine, Lennon shared that their parents give them advice about the industry.

“Yeah definitely, they know how to sing and where to go and where not to go, as far as musically and acting, because they’ve been in it for so long – the business side of it, they’re aware of things that other parents may not be aware of so it’s definitely good to have musical parents that know how to do it. “

When producers were originally trying to fill the roles of Maddie and Daphne Conrad on Nashville, they were looking for the characters ages to be 6-years-old and 8-years-old, but they changed the ages to fit Lennon and Maisy after hearing them sing and seeing them act.

Lennon and Maisy have quite the following from big names in the music industry. Many have posted about the duo on Twitter. When asked who her favorites were during the Coup De Main Magazine interview, Lennon shared the following,

“Harry Styles was so amazing and totally my favorite, and Imogen Heap tweeted and Julian Lennon was my other one.”

Besides their recurring roles on ABC’s Nashville, Lennon and Maisy have also performed at the Grand Ole Opry and at the CMA Music Fest. They also performed at The White House in 2014.

On April 25, 2016, Lennon and Maisy released their newest YouTube video. The video is a cover of the girls singing Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On.” The video features Lennon and Maisy sitting on a rug with a whimsy, white backdrop, white trees and hanging balls of flowers.
