LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan has disposed of a petition against establishment of ‘Shariat Court’ by Jamatud Dawa (JuD) with directions to the Punjab home secretary to look into the matter. The judge directed the home secretary to treat the petition of a property developer as application and decide it strictly in accordance with law after hearing all concerned. Khalid Saeed of Samanabad had moved a petition against a summon he had received, written on letter pad of ‘Darul Qaza Al-Sharia’ Jamatud Dawa, Masjid Al-Qadsia in Chauburji with a direction to appear before its ‘arbitration court of Sharia’. He said that these summonses were issued to him on the complaint of one Muhammad Azam. He submitted that the impugned summons had warned that in case of non-appearance, no excuse would be considered and the petitioner shall be proceeded against in accordance with the Sharia law. He claimed that he had also received telephone calls from the Qazi of the JuD court in a threatening tone, asking him to appear before his court. He said that no private person or party could create its own courts, adding that applications were submitted to the government functionaries and chief justice of Pakistan against the illegal summons but all remained unanswered. He requested the court to order the concerned authorities to look into the matter and take action against the organisation for committing illegal acts and for subverting the constitution by establishing a parallel judicial system.
