USA network has passed on one pilot and is sending another back to the drawing board, Variety has confirmed.
The network will not pick up “Poor Richard’s Almanac” to series. The pilot, from from Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions, was ordered by USA in July. Exec produced by Jim Danger Gray of “Orange Is the New Black” with “Game of Thrones” director Miguel Sapochnik serving as a consulting producer, it tells the story of a group of heroes who emerge as the United States’ “new founding fathers” as the country teeters on the verge of collapse. The studios will now begin shopping the pilot elsewhere.
“Brooklyn Animal Control,” another hour-long pilot ordered in July, will be redeveloped by the network with UCP and executive producer JT Petty. The pilot is based on the comic book by Petty and Stephen Thompson and takes place in the world of a secretive New York Police Department unit that deals with werewolves. “Batman v Superman” writer David Goyer, Circle of Confusion’s David Alpert and Rick Jacobs, and IDW Entertainment’s David Ozer and Ted Adams all served as executive producers on the original pilot.
In January, USA ordered Gale Anne Hurd pilot “Falling Water” to series. In February the network picked up “Shooter,” starring Ryan Phillippe, to series.
