Braveheart fights off man who tried to snatch her purse inside bank
Indira Rajan tussled with the robber for five minutes while raising an alarm.

A 35-year-old housewife fought off a man who tried to snatch her purse inside a Chembur bank. Indira Rajan was approached by the accused Abed Feeroz Irani as she was filling in a pay in slip at a bank in Chembur East, where she was depositing Rs 35,000.

Irani offered to help her fill in the slip, but when she refused his offer, he tried to snatch her purse. Rajan however, didn’t meekly give in. She fought Irani off for at least five full minutes, desperately holding onto her purse and raising an alarm.

Rajan had been standing at a deserted pay-in slip counter that was separated from the rest of the branch, so it took some time for the other citizens to notice the tussle and come to her aid.

Irani was restrained by the other customers, who called up the Mumbai Police Control Room. Irani was taken to the Govandi police station and booked under section 393 (Attempt to commit robbery).

Govandi police inspector Sanjay More said, “Rajan played very vital role in Irani’s arrest. Every woman should act like her. This is necessary to stop women from becoming victims.”

Irani was produced before the court and sent to police custody.
