Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung Friday appointed Alok Kumar, a 2000-batch IPS officer, as additional commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB). He will replace senior ACB officer S S Yadav, according to the appointment order issued by Jung.

Yadav’s transfer is being seen as a setback for the AAP government, which has repeatedly asked for control of the ACB. The AAP government has been at loggerheads with the Centre after M K Meena was appointed the chief of ACB. The government had accused the Centre of trying to ‘hijack’ the anti-corruption agency.

Meena, who was transferred to Andaman and Nicobar Islands in February, will stay on in Delhi, said government officials.

In a meeting of the Joint Cadre Authority, Meena was asked to stay in the capital as he was Additional Director General of Police-level officer. “Since there is already an ADGP posted in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Meena cannot be posted there,” stated an official order.
