Chandigarh: Two days after Congress councillor Pardeep Chhabra inaugurated the open gym in Shanti Kunj, mayor Arun Sood on Friday formally inaugurated it in the presence of municipal commissioner Baldeo Purushartha and municipal councillors.
The mayor said the local residents can avail open air gymnasium facilities here free of cost. He said that the gym has been provided as a pilot project and machines installed here were manually operated.
He said that MC planned to get this facility introduced in all other big parks of the city in due course of time.
The equipment installed included chair, sub board, space walker, seated pedal trainer, elliptical cross trainer, parallel bars, taiji wheel, riding trainer and stepper at a cost of Rs 11.49 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Congress on Friday protested against the water crisis at the MC office in Sector 17 and Shanti Kunj. The Congress leaders accused the BJP of failing to provide water to residents who have been facing unprecedented water shortage. Taking empty buckets in their hands and towels, the Congress workers called the BJP government most inefficient ever.
