PU syndicate meet to focus on research
Chandigarh: Panjab University syndicate meeting on May 1 will take up the issue of promoting research in PU-affiliated colleges. The syndicate would discuss the recommendations made by a committee constituted by vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover at a meeting held on January 5.
Sources said one of the members of the committee had informed in the meeting that the notification regarding the creation of Research Promotion Centres in the college had been issued in 2009 but failed to make further progress.
However, one of the members had raised objection to notify that the progress has been made in the regard in colleges.
The committee member had also brought into notice that 150 marks are reserved for research in NAAC accreditation and in the absence of research centres in colleges, these colleges would be unable to do well in NAAC score.
Moreover, the syndicate would take up the fresh guidelines for PhD theses, which suggests that if a scholar fails in one paper out of three papers in the course work, the student will not have to repeat the whole course work as per previous guidelines but he/she will have to repeat only that paper within a period of two months.
Sources also informed that one committee member had recommended in the meeting that the departments should clear all the pending cases of appointments of PhD supervisors.
