At least four people were injured in an explosion triggered by fire at one of the units in the Lassipora industrial estate here in Pulwama district of the south Kashmir region today.

All injured are non-locals working at the unit. According to reports, the fire erupted around 2.40 pm, following which an explosion took place. The incident created panic in the industrial area.

The police said the fire erupted in the steel furnace of Diamond Grinding Steel Industries.

“Timely evacuation of all employees at the unit and other neighbouring units was done by fire services and the police,” Pulwama Superintendent of Police Rayees Bhat said.

He said the fire was brought under control within time. Overheating of machines might have triggered the fire, he added.
