There are always going to be challenges but what is also important is that you see the challenges as opportunities and take the best from it.

With this positive mind-set, Jerome Kado, a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is ready to serve as the President of the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

Mr Kado replaces Nouzab Fareed who decided to step down from the FIA board after serving his one year term.

Recognising the excellent work done by his predecessor and other members, Mr Kado now hopes to continue with the momentum and build upon from where they have left off.

“I guess now that we have identified where we are, the aim is to then develop and take the institute and its members to the next level,” he said.

“We have a lot of very good members and membership that are both locally and internationally-recognised.

“Now we need to bring more of our membership up to that standard.

“To do that basically, we are looking at formulating a strategic plan in the next few months and planning that out to effectively implement strategies over the next few years in bringing that to fruition.”

Mr Kado said the challenge here would be to find the quality time to push this through and he is positive it can be done.

He recognised the efforts of the council members who have given their time and efforts to something which they had effectively volunteered for and do not get paid to do any of it.

“But we have a lot of heart in this and the good thing is we have a lot of resources behind us as well in terms of the corporate bodies support,” he said.

Developing People

Mr Kado, a former President of the Fiji Red Cross Society, is also passionate about bringing people to a level where they can all positively contribute to the country as a whole.

“I believe we have so much strength in our people and by developing them more, we take them to the next level,” he said.

“We can contribute to every different sector of the society by bringing them up to speed. We have not only financial skills but also administration skills as well.

“That is actually quite lacking in organisations that can do a lot of good things. So if you develop the people to go into the different paths of society, we then lift the society as a whole.”
