ANN ARBOR – Duo Security was awarded a $2.5 million grant Tuesday from the Michigan Strategic Fund, money that will be used to fund the cybersecurity company’s expansion and create up to 300 jobs over the next three years.

Duo Security, with locations in Michigan, California, London, and Austin, plans to expand its existing operations in Ann Arbor, growing its team of sales, engineering, security and product development professionals.

“Michigan, and Ann Arbor in particular, is where we want Duo to be,” CEO Dug Song said. “Ann Arbor has grown to be a robust tech community because we’ve got the smarts and innovation right here in our backyard. By expanding in Michigan, Duo hopes to support that growth of the tech community in Ann Arbor and to help attract talent back from the coasts.”

Duo Security established its Ann Arbor technology facility in 2009. Citing the flourishing technology environment, attractive business climate, and highly qualified talent pool, the company chose to invest in its Ann Arbor headquarter operations over competing sites in technology heavy-hitters like Silicon Valley.

Duo Security signed a lease for a 30,000-square-foot expansion in the Allmendinger Building at 130 S. First Street in downtown Ann Arbor, Song told Crain’s Detroit. It will be the second location in the city for Duo, which will retain its current space at 123 N. Ashley. The Allmendinger build-out will accommodate the 297 new employees the company said it will hire over the next three years.

How well Duo Security is doing, in terms of revenues and profits, however, remains a mystery. Song has refused to provide MITechNews.Com with any revenue guidance.
