Lugari MP Ayub Savula has thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for announcing revival of the collapsed Pan Paper Mills in Webuye.

The President announced at State House yesterday that the company will be revived for Sh6 billion.

Uhuru said an investor is ready to pump in the money from August.

This comes two days after the government released an additional Sh1.1 billion for Mumias Sugar Company.

This is part of the Sh2 billion approved by Parliament in December last year.

In June last year, the government presented a Sh1 billion cheque to the company and promised more funding.

Attempts to revive the ailing sugar industry in Western come ahead of Uhuru's planned visit to the region.

Former Medical Services minister Amukowa Anangwe said Jubilee needs “to pull up its socks in Western in order to endear itself to voters through a twin-approach of public goodies and building extensive grassroots networks”.
