Surendranagar hottest at 44.3, AMC sends 40,000 SMS alerts as mercury touches 43.6

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today sent over 40000 SMS alerts regarding heat wave precautions and issued ‘orange’ level alert as the mercury touched 43.6 degree Celsius mark.

Many other cities in the state also recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degree Celsius with Surendranagar having the highest mercury level at 44.3 degree Celsius.

AMC Health Officer Bhavin Solanki said that orange level alter regarding heat wave has been issued in the wake of the soaring temperatures in the city. ‘We have got weather advisory which says that there won’t be any respite from heatwave till May 2. We sent 40000 SMS alerts in this regard,’ he said.

Mayor Gautam Shah said that the local body has issued alert to people regarding heat wave precautions and what should be done in case of heat stroke. All the precautionary measures with main focus on making people aware of heatwave risks and timely alerts were being taken.
