I often wondered why Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is the best romantic film we have seen in so many years now. What is it that sets this film apart from a host of other romantic films? And then I realised, the reason Shah Rukh Khan could put in so much into the role of Raj Malhotra was because he had a similar love story in real life too. His romance with Gauri is what Bollywood films are made of. Guy falls for a girl, she reciprocates but her father is dead against the hero. Shah Rukh faced all that and yet managed to marry the girl of his dreams.
