In celebration of Budapest100, an annual urban civil festival celebrating the 100-year-old buildings of Budapest, CIB Bank recently showcased a pair of "120-year-old ATMs."
Or, at least, what CIB's ad agency imagined ATMs might have looked like had they existed in 1896, the year that Budapest observed its first 100-year festival.
According to a press release, Saatchi & Saatchi Budapest created two different "steampunk" ATM models, which were placed outside two of CIB Bank’s five branches on the city's Grand Boulevard.
During the two-day celebration, the cash machines took photos of approximately 2,000 festival-goer and instantly printed them on Hungary's old banknote, the Pengo.
During the printing process, the machine's cogwheels spun and the boiling liquid inside produced puffs of steam, "giving the illusion of what innovation must have looked like 120 years ago," the release said.
