Jaipur: The public health and engineering department (PHED) will take minimum two years to start adequate drinking water supply in the entire Prithviraj Nagar (PRN) from Bisalpur dam.
With this, the wait for nearly 3 lakh residents grows longer even after state government's announcement to provide basic facilities including drinking water.
The PHED department plans to supply Bisalpur water in PRN scheme in two phases.
According to the officials, the department has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) to supply drinking water in the north PRN region. Now, the department has appointed PDCOR consultancy to prepare a survey report for south region.
"It would take nearly six months to prepare the DPR of south region. Along with the PRN south region, the firm would also conduct a survey for supplying drinking water in Jamdoli region, Agra road. To supply drinking water in PRN, it would take atleast two years," said a PHED official.
Official further claimed, work in the north region is expected to start after making few amendments in the DPR. "For north region, the PHED has estimated to supply 40 mld water per day from Bisalpur though the demand for the entire PRN scheme is around 85 mld of water. The work to lay pipelines is expected to start soon. It would require time to develop the infrastructure," further added the official.

For increasing the quantity of water supplied from Bisalpur to more than 540 mld, the department has laid an additional pipeline from Surajpura to Balawala. Similarly, additional transfer pipelines from Balawala to different parts of Jaipur will be laid for distribution of water to western areas of the city. Once the infrastructure is developed the water will be supplied in PRN scheme and other areas.
It was proposed to supply surplus water received from Bisalpur to new colonies. Currently, the amount of water supplied by the treatment plant in Bisalpur is 400 mld, which is supposed to increase up to 600 mld in times ahead.
An official said that out of 600 mld, Jaipur city's share is 540 mld. However, the present supply to the city is 430-440 mld, of which 340-350 mld from Bisalpur dam and about 90 mld from tubewells. "There would be around 40 mld surplus water available which can be used for providing water supply in developed colonies of PRN."
