CINTAA’s Amit Behl regrets using the word ‘ban’, seeks apology from Rakhi Sawant and Dolly Bindra

Actress Shilpa Shinde was the first one who pointed out that the CINTAA didn’t have any business interfering in a legal issue between an artist and a producer. She claimed that it was illegal for any association to ban a person from working, thus taking away his or her constitutional right to work. However, ignoring Shilpa’s stand, the association went on to threaten banning Rakhi Sawant and Dolly Bindra as well for their actions after Pratyusha Banerjee’s death. This has now backfired on Behl. In a public statement, Amit Behl has extended an apology to Rakhi Sawant and Dolly Bindra for proposing a ban on them for allegedly indulging in cheap publicity stunts after Pratyusha Banerjee’s death. “I would like to offer my unconditional apology to Dolly Bindra and Rakhi Sawant for using the word 'ban' and other related statements. I admit it is entirely my fault, and also for going on record on electronic media, Whatsapp and SMS, about their actions or views on Pratyusha Banerjee's untimely demise which had affected me very gravely mentally,” Behl stated at a press conference on Wednesday.

“I regret it. I should have consulted my executive committee members before making such statements. I would be very grateful if the committee, and both, Rakhi ji and Dolly ji accept my apology,” Behl added as he read out a letter e has sent to the committee.

While Rakhi Sawant had appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban ceiling fans, Dolly Bindra had circulated pictures of Pratyush’s dead body and a voice clip of Pratyusha’s mother in the media.

Reacting to Behl’s criticism, Rakhi had stated, “You (Amit) used the word ‘publicity stunt’ and that you will ‘ban’ us. That is not the work of CINTAA to ban anyone. This has been damaging to my career, my mother was hospitalised. If you don’t apologise in front of the whole media, I’m going to sue, or maybe even I’ll have to consider suicide in that case. The people of our country are abusing us so much.”

Rakhi declared that she would follow up this matter with the CINTAA until Amit apologised and clarified things in front of the media.

So finally, Amit Behl declared, “In the next executive committee meeting, I’m going to tender my resignation. Whatever disciplinary action they feel they want to take, I will accept.”

CINTAA general secretary, actor Sushant Singh, has agreed that the CINTAA does not have the right to ban any television actor or be “moral police”. He said that Amit's comments did not reflect the association’s stand and that they were his own sentiments.
