Kolkata: Actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty has kept a very busy schedule recently, campaigning for the Left as well as shooting for films. However, on Thursday evening, he was in for a rude shock while travelling to Bolpur for a shoot.
Half-way into his journey, he was informed that the shooting had been cancelled because of an issue with the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI).
A week ago, TOI had reported about problems at the Bolpur leg of shooting for 'Shikari' - starring Srabanti and Saqib Khan - on April 19. Chakraborty said, "The problem happened some days back when the hero and heroine were supposed to shoot a dance sequence. The dancers provided by the guild were not approved by the dance director. If the dance director doesn't approve of them, how can one force them on to the production?"
The issue was ultimately resolved. But a day was lost. Dates were reworked and it was decided that the pending work would be completed on April 29. While travelling to Bolpur, Chakraborty was told that the filming was again stalled, this time because prior intimation was not provided about it.
Chakraborty recalled how chief minister Mamata Banerjee had reiterated time and again that shooting must not get stalled. "She has said that problems need to be resolved across the table. If the production house is at fault, it has to employ members of the federation or pay a fine. Under no circumstances should work get stalled," he said.
The recent developments, Chakraborty said, showed that the ground reality is very different.
"The chief minister is saying one thing and members of her party are doing otherwise. This is giving a wrong impression about the film industry and the state. While the state is inviting people to film here, shootings are getting stalled this way," the actor added.
Chakraborty is expecting "good sense" to prevail on the federation. "Problems should be sorted across the table. Work can't get stalled. Otherwise, it is a loss for both the producer and the artists," he said.
