Dhruv overcomes Parth to enter semis

Chandigarh: Dhruv Sunish overcame the first set loss to beat Parth Aggarwal and enter the semifinals in men's singles category in the HV Birla AITA National Ranking Rs 1 lakh tennis tournament at the Chandigarh Club courts in Sector 1.
Both the players struggled under the searing heat, but Parth broke Dhruv's serve to take lead in the opening set. He won the 12th game to annex the first set and wrested the initiative.
Dhruv, who was error-prone in the first set, quickly got over the first set loss and clawed his way back into the game.
He was fast on his feet and played some powerful groundstrokes to push Parth on the back foot.
Once he raced into the lead, there was no looking back for him and sealed the second set 6-2 to draw level with Parth at 1-1. In the final set, Dhruv once again shone under pressure and kept his nerve to complete a 6-3 win to secure his berth in last four.
Bhavesh Gaur also came from a set down to register a hard-fought win over Mohammad Fariz in a thrilling three-setter.
Both the players were engaged in a thrilling encounter but Fariz wrested the initiative by winning the opening set 6-4. Bhavesh returned with an improved performance in the second set but Fariz pushed him to the brink.

However, Bhavesh went on to clinch the second set 7-5 to draw level with Fariz. In the final set, Fariz looked out of sorts and could win just two games as Bhavesh stormed into the semi-finals with a commanding 6-2 win in the third set.
Mohammad Fahad, meanwhile, hardly broke a sweat and made short work of Mohit Bhardwaj to reach the semifinals. Mohammad was at his fluent best and did not concede any game to complete a 6-0 win. In the second set, he lost just one game. He closed out the set with a superb forehand.
Param Pun completed the semifinal line-up with an easy win over Abhishek Gaur. Param saw off Abhishek's initial challenge to log a hard-fought 6-4 win in the opening set. But he was dominant in the second set and conceded just one game.
Meanwhile, in men's doubles category, Bhavesh and Sagar showed the exit door to Kabir and Sumitpal in a thrilling quarterfinal match.
Bhavesh and Sagar won 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. Fariz and Fahad showed good camaraderie between them and ousted Manjot and Sabrang with a hard-fought 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 win. Utkarsh and Yugal saw off Arnav and Abhishek's late surge to register a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win. In the last match, Param and Dhruv easily defeated Vanshal and Rohang 6-3, 6-2, to complete the semifinal line-up.
In the women's singles category, Prinkle Singh made it to the semifinals with an easy win over Ankita Ghotar. Prinkle was focused and looked in control in the quarterfinal match against Ankita. She made a superb start and did not look back.
