Two injured in fireworks unit blast

Two workers sustained injuries in a blast that occurred at a fireworks manufacturing unit at Vadapatti near Sivakasi on Thursday morning. The injured were identified as G Marimuthu, 35 and V Murugeswari, 45 from Vadapatti village.

Sivakasi: Two workers sustained injuries in a blast that occurred at a fireworks manufacturing unit at Vadapatti near Sivakasi on Thursday morning.
The injured were identified as G Marimuthu, 35 and V Murugeswari, 45 from Vadapatti village.
The blast took place at New Sky Fireworks, a small fireworks units licensed by the district administration. Around 8.15 am, when the workers were mixing chemicals in the manufacturing shed they realised there was something amiss about the mix and ran for safety.
Though they managed to come out of the shed in the nick of time they were hit by flying debris and suffered injuries. The entire shed collapsed in the blast. Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and carried out rescue measures. The injured were rushed to Sivakasi Government Hospital where they received treatment.
