Affidavits reveal AIADMK MLA is richer than ministers

Prominent AIADMK candidates, former mayor V V Rajan Chellappa and ministers Sellur K Raju and R B Udayakumar, filed their nominations to contest from constituencies in Madurai district and other southern districts on Thursday, with the Andipatti candidate having more assets than the ministers.

Madurai: Prominent AIADMK candidates, former mayor V V Rajan Chellappa and ministers Sellur K Raju and R B Udayakumar, filed their nominations to contest from constituencies in Madurai district and other southern districts on Thursday, with the Andipatti candidate having more assets than the ministers.
Rajan Chellappa filed his nomination for the Madurai North constituency and submitted his affidavit to the returning officer of Madurai Zone II, Lilly Bhai.
A large number of AIADMK cadres accompanied him well up to the 100-metre radius from the nomination hall. He declared movable assets worth Rs 19.39 lakh and immovable properties worth Rs 72.62 lakh in his name, while his wife had immovable properties worth Rs 4.02 crore. His car was a 21-year-old Ambassador valued at Rs 65,000. He had liabilities of Rs 39.09 lakh, while his wife had liabilities worth Rs 1.46 crore.
Minister Sellur K Raju, who is contesting the Madurai West constituency, filed his nomination before the returning officer Mangalaramasubramanian. He declared movable assets worth Rs 13.36 lakh and immovable assets of Rs 22 lakh.
R B Udhayakumar filed his nomination for the Thirumangalam constituency in Madurai, and declared movable and immovable assets worth Rs 10.85 lakh each under both heads.
In Theni district, minister O Paneerselvam filed his nomination for the Bodinaickanur constituency. He declared movable assets of Rs 98 lakh, immovable assets of Rs 51.20 lakh. The AIADMK's Thangathamizh Selvan, who is contesting the VVIP constituency of Andipatti, has many cases pending against him according to his affidavit. He declared immovable assets worth Rs 3.35 crore and movable assets worth Rs 25 lakh, including a Rs 1 lakh Royal Enfield motorcycle.
Natham R Viswanathan filed his nomination for the Athoor constituency in Dindigul district and declared movable assets worth Rs 37.43 lakh and immovable properties worth Rs 45 lakh.
