Wildlife SOS rescued recently a kite fledgling from the official residence of Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot here.
The bird is currently under observation and will be released into its natural habitat once deemed fit.
Gourav Singh, a member of the staff at the Minister’s residence, said: “We found the bird lying on the ground and assumed it had fallen from its nest. We gave it some water and food as it looked weak, but even after resting for a day it was unable to fly. That is when I decided to contact the Wildlife SOS rapid response unit on their 24-hour helpline (9871963535).”
Kartick Satyanarayan, the co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said: “As is the case with most fledglings, the kite was probably learning to fly and crash landed on the premises. With time, it will learn to fly confidently on its own, but we need to ensure that it regains its strength before releasing it. The Wildlife SOS rescue team works round the clock within the Delhi-NCR region to rescue distressed urban wildlife, such as this kite fledgling.”
