Vegan House Extermination, Barbie And Usain Bolt On Most Watched Ads In Australia So Far

Despite being the most complained about ad ever, Meat & Livestock Australia’s ad for this year’s Australia Day has landed the top spot in YouTube’s ‘Most Watched’ list.

Obviously the year is not over yet, so the list only encompasses the ads from the first quarter of 2016.

However, the controversy clearly paid off for MLA. The annual ad was for Australia Day and starred sassy SBS newsreader Lee Lin Chin calling Aussies overseas back to chow down on some lamb. Two of Lego’s ads made it into the top ten, as has an Optus one and Barbie’s transition through time.

“The 2016 Summer YouTube Ads Leaderboard – which looks at ads from January to March – has a cracking Aussie ad in top spot,” said Chris Dodson, head of YouTube and ads marketing at Google Australia.

“The ‘We Love Lamb’ Australia Day video featuring Lee Lin Chin and Sam Kekovich captured the attention of viewers and, at two minutes long, showed audiences have an attention span for interesting content. From lamb to Lego, the top ads this quarter all succeed in creating content their audiences care about and delivering it in the moments that matter.”
