LEH, Apr 28: Defense Ins-titute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) Director Dr Bhuvnesh Kumar inaugurated first Ladakhi Commercial Organic Fruits Nursery in a function at Dhomkhar, where 10,000 saplings of 15 different varieties of fruit bearing trees were grown using DIHAR technology.
Thangjuk Industries in the Sham region known for producing superior quality of apricot makes a unique initiative by setting up a first of kind commercial organic Fruit Nursery to promote agro-fruit Industry in the Sham belt.
While speaking, Dr Bhuvnesh said that production of plant at large scale with new technique is the need of hour as transporting sapling from other region faces many challenges with not much success record. He urged the educated youth to come forward to start entrepreneur.
Dr Kumar also urged the farming community to make the region organic to set example for others region and added that women can play vital role in making entire Ladakh organic and assures DIHAR’s best support to make the region sustainable region to set example to others.
Vice President of LBA, PT Kunzang in his speech said that GoI has kept maximum fund allocation to promote agriculture sector and now time has come to review the farming activity in the region which had been practiced by our ancestors for ages and the new trend of migrating to cities must stop especially in wake of Government reducing the ration scale.
Proprietor of the orchards Sonam Stanzin Thangjuk while presenting the welcome speech said that such initiatives aimed to promote the farming activities and to lengthen the plantation season by adopting DIHAR technology. He strongly emphasized upon the farming community to pay special attention at the time of apricot and apple harvesting to maintain its quality to fetch good prize.
Stanzin also emphasized upon the youths not to look for Government jobs and stand up by their own by adopting such business which are in high demand with handsome income.
Area Councilor Morup Dorjay, LBA Women President Tsewang Dolma, Nambardar Sonam Rinchen, NGO “LEHO” Deputy Director Tashi Thokmed and Chief Horticulture Officer Tsewang Phuntsog also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion number of farming tools, different variety of sapling and organic products were displayed for visitors and there were huge demands for saplings from visitors.
As part of function famous folk singer Nima Stanzin, Dorjay Stakmo and female vocalist Padma Dolker enthralled the audience with their performances.
