AIADMK candidates file papers across central region

R. Vaithilingam and R. Kamraj were among the big names to enter the fray

All AIADMK and alliance party candidates filed their nomination papers with their respective constituencies’ returning officers on Thursday.

Prominent among those who filed their nomination papers included Housing and Agriculture Minister R. Vaithilingam from Orathanad constituency in Thanjavur district and Food and Hindu Religious and Charitable Minister R. Kamaraj from the Nannilam seat in Tiruvarur district.

PERAMBALUR: AIADMK candidates contesting in Perambalur district filed their nomination papers on Thursday.

MLA R. Tamizhchelvan who has been retained in Perambalur (Reserved) Assembly constituency submitted his papers to the Returning Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer, Perambalur R. Baby in the afternoon.

M. Sathyaseelan of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, M. Kaliyaperumal of the BJP and Arunkumar of Naam Tamizhar Katchi contesting in Perambalur seat also filed their papers.

The AIADMK’s Perambalur district secretary and the nominee for Kunnam constituency R.T. Ramachandran and Mohammed Shahnawaz of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi also contesting from the same seat filed their nominations.

ARIYALUR: Five candidates filed nominations papers for Ariyalur constituency here on Thursday.

S. Rajendran, AIADMK candidate, was among those filed nominations. With this, the number of nominations received for Ariyalur constituency has gone up to 10.

Similarly, J.K.N. Ramajeyalingam of AIADMK presented nominations for Jeyankondam constituency. Twelve nominations have been received for the constituency so far.

THANJAVUR: MLA M. Rangaswamy filed his papers for the Thanjavur seat while in Tiruvaiyaru, the former MLA M.G.M. Subramanian handed over his papers to the Returning Officer. In Papanasam, MLA R. Duraikannu filed the papers even as Kumbakonam Municipal Chairperson Rathna Sekar filed papers in the company of the former MLA Rama Eramanathan whom she replaced at the last minute.

DMK’s Thanjavur nominee Anjugam Bhupathy filed her nomination papers with the Returning Officer Jaibheem in the presence of the former Union Minister of State S.S. Palanimanikkam, the former Minister S.N.M. Ubhayadullah, senior DMK leader L. Ganesan and district Congress president T. Krishnasamy Vandayar.

In Tiruvidaimarudur, U. Settu filed his papers as the AIADMK candidate while in Pattukkottai C.V. Sekar joined the fray as the ruling party nominee. In Peravoorani, the party's M. Govindaraj filed his nomination papers to complete the tally.

TIRUVARUR: Besides Mr. Kamaraj, his namesake S. Kamaraj filed his nomination papers from the Mannargudi constituency while A.N.R. Panneerselvam entered the fray to challenge the former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Tiruvarur even as the Tiruthuraipoondi Municiapl Chairperson K. Uma Maheswari filed papers as the AIADMK candidate there.

In Tiruthuraipoondi, U. Saravanan of Naam Tamizhar Katchi and S. Rajamohan of Pattali Makkal Katchi filed their papers. For the Tiruvarur seat, N. Rengadoss of the BJP and S. Chandrasekar of Naam Tamizhar Katchi filed papers. For the Mannargudi seat, DMDK’s A. Murugaiyan Babu filed papers during the day.

NAGAPATTINAM: Ruling party strongman and former MP O.S. Manian filed papers from Vedaranyam while the AIADMK's ally the Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi's general secretary Thameemun Ansari filed his papers in Nagapattinam. Party panchayat union secretary Meena filed papers from Keezhvelur even as Radhakrishnan filed in Mayiladuthurai, Bharathi from Sirkali and MLA S. Pavunraj filed his papers from Poompuhar.

As regards other parties in the district, the Indian Union Muslim League's Shahjehan filed his papers from Poompuhar, while in Sirkali candidates representing DMK, Shiv Sena, Bahujan Samaj Party, Naam Tamizhar Katchi, and Independents filed their papers.

In Nagapattinam constituency, candidates belonging to the BJP, the Shiv Sena, Naam Tamizhar Katchi, All India Forward Bloc, and Abdul Kalam Latchiya India Katchi filed their papers with the Returning Officer. For the Vedaranyam seat, apart from the AIADMK, DMDK, PMK, and Nam Tamizhar Katchi filed their papers. In Keezhvelur constituency, PMK, BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party and Naam Tamizhar Katchi candidates entered the fray.

In all, 54 sets of nomination papers were received by the returning officers for the six constituencies in Nagapattinam district on Thursday.

KARUR: Fifty candidates filed their nominations for four constituencies in Karur district on Thursday.

While Aravakurichi constituency received 19 nominations, 12 candidates filed for Karur constituency. Krishnarayapuram and Kulithalai received 10 and 9 nominations respectively.

AIADMK nominees for all constituencies filed their papers.

While V. Senthil Balaji filed his nomination for Aravakurichi constituency, V. Elango filed as the party dummy candidate. Mr. Balaji took out a rally before submitting his documents with the Returning Officer in Aravakuruchi.

M.R. Vijaya Baskar filed the nomination papers for Karur constituency. He presented four sets of nomination papers. N. Murugesan, nominee of PMK, was among those filed nominations.

M. Geetha, AIADMK nominee and M. Pandian, PMK candidate, were among those filed papers for Krishnarayapuram constituency.

For Kulithalai constituency, R. Chandrasekaran, AIADMK nominee, presented three sets of nominations. N.P.A. Ganesha Muthuraja and A. Periasamy, dummy candidates of the party, filed their nominations.

PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 37 nominations were filed on Thursday. All the AIADMK candidates including Health Minister C.Vijaya Baskar, who is seeking re-election from the Viralimalai constituency, V.R. Karthik Thondaiman the party candidate for Pudukottai, P.K. Vairamuthu for Tirumayam, G.Gnana Kalaiselvan for Alangudi, and E. Rathina Sabhapathy for Arathangi filed their nominations.

KARAIKAL: Sixteen candidates, including the AIADMK nominees, field their nominations for the five Assembly segments in the district.
