Four sitting MLAs filed their nomination in the district on Thursday. They comprised three ruling party MLAs and one belonging to CPI.
Environment Minister Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam filed his nomination for Perundurai segment, and K.V. Ramalingam in Erode West, while K.A. Sengottaiyan filed nomination in Gobichettipalayam. CPI MLA P.L. Sundaram filed his nomination in Bhavani Sagar (Reserved) constituency.
Former MLA Thennarasu filed nomination for Erode East. First-time contestants of ruling party who filed their nominations consisted of Sivasubramanian in Modakurichi, Venkatachalam in Perundurai, K.C. Karupannan in Bhavani, and K.R. Rajakrishnan in Anthiyur.
Other contestants in Erode East were Perumalraj of Gandhi Makkal Iyakkam, Palani of NCP, Allavudin of Naam Tamilar Katchi, Senthil Kumar of Uzhaipalar Makkal Katchi, and P.T. Loganathan, Independent.
In Erode West, Shanmugam (Independent), and Velusamy of Indian Dravida Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam also filed nominations, while in Modakurichi two nominations were received from Ramesh of DMDK and Baskaran of Aikiya Jananayagam Katchi.
In Perundurai, DMK candidate K.P. Samy fulfilled the nomination formalities. Other candidates in the segment were V.P. Shanmugam of TMC, Kumaresan of PMK, and Dakshinamoorthy, Independent.
Bhavani segment witnessed filing of nominations by Siddhi Vinayagam of BJP, Ammasai of Janata Dal - United, Chandirasekar of Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi, Seethalakshmi of Naam Tamizhar Katchi, and three Independents - Mohan, Perumal, and Kumar.
In Anthiyur, Gopal of PMK, B.G. Mohankumar of BJP, R.R. Murugan of JD-U, and Manimekalai of NMK entered the fray. Tamilarasan of NMK and Lingeswaran (Independent) filed nominations in Gobi constituency.
In Bhavani Sagar constituency, Arumugam of BSP also filed nomination.
